| Biochem/physiol Actions: | CLPTM1L (cleft lip and palate trans-membrane 1-like) is mainly involved in maintaining genomic stability and integrity, by controlling the activity of telomerases. This protein might be involved in apoptosis. It is up-regulated in lung cancer, and regulates Bcl-xL, and inhibits genotoxic stress-mediated apoptosis in lung tumor cells. Therefore, it facilitates lung tumorigenesis. It facilitates growth in pancreatic cells, and is up-regulated in pancreatic cancer cells, where it promotes growth and aneuploidy. Genome wide association studies (GWAS) show that polymorphisms in this gene are also linked to susceptibility to familial and bilateral testicular germ cell tumours (TGCTs). |

| General description: | CLPTM1L (cleft lip and palate trans-membrane 1-like) was originally discovered as a gene conferring resistance to cisplatin in ovarian cancer cells. Thus, it is also called cisplatin resistance-related protein 9 (CRR9p). This gene is localized to human chromosome 5p15.33. It is expressed in multiple types of tumors, and is up-regulated in cisplatin-resistant tumor cell lines. |
