| Biochem/physiol Actions: | PLA2G6 (phospholipase A2, group VI) gene encodes a phospholipase that catalyzes the release of fatty acids from phospholipids. The protein may function in phospholipid remodeling, nitric oxide-induced or vasopressin-induced arachidonic acid release. It is also involved in leukotriene and prostaglandin synthesis. It may have a role in fas mediated apoptosis and in regulating transmembrane ion flux in glucose-stimulated B-cells. It is also involved in cardiolipin (CL) deacylation. Mutations in PLA2G6 are associated with infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy, neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation type II and autosomal recessive early-onset dystonia-parkinsonism. Loss of PLA2G6 gene activity causes lipid peroxidation, mitochondrial dysfunction and thereby mitochondrial membrane abnormalities. It is also involved in type 1 diabetes, by participating in endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced β-cell apoptosis. |

| Features and Benefits: | Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section. Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways: • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues. • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments. |
