| Biochem/physiol Actions: | FGFR3 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 3) plays an essential role in the signaling pathways during embryogenesis and angiogenesis. This gene is either mutated or up-regulated in multiple myeloma, cervical carcinoma and nonmuscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the bladder.Apart from this, certain mutations in FGFR3 are also known to be linked with skeletal disorders such as various forms of dwarfism. FGFR3 also plays hepatoprotective function during liver damage. |
| General description: | Research area: Cancer FGFR3 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 3) is a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) and belongs to the FGFR subfamily. This subfamily includes four members namely, FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3, and FGFR4. It contains a ligand-binding region in its exoplasmic domain, a single transmembrane region, and a tyrosine kinase domain in its intracellular domain.FGFR3 has a strong affinity for canonical FGF ligands. |
