Application:	Fusidic acid sodium salt has been used to study the effects of three-drug combinations on the growth rate of a bacterium, wild-type Escherichia coli. It is also used to study the in vitro susceptibility of dog-derived European methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and Staphylococcus aureus strains and their methicillin-susceptible counterparts.
Biochem/physiol Actions:	Fusidic acid possesses antimicrobial action against skin pathogens. It is highly specific to Staphylococcus aureus. It is therefore used for treating infected traumatic wounds, folliculitis, furunculosis, impetigo, erythrasma and abscesses.
Biochem/physiol Actions:	Suppresses nitric oxide lysis of pancreatic islet cells. Inhibits protein synthesis in prokaryotes by inhibiting the ribosome-dependent activity of G factor and translocation of peptidyl-tRNA.
