| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Cre recombinase enables DNA recombination between two recognition sites called loxP. Each one of these sites (34 bp long) contain two 13 bp palindromic flanking sequences and in between them is a core spacer sequence 8 bp long. The recombination event takes place within the spacer area of the two loxP sites. Cre/loxP system manipulates genes in mammalian systems by making deletions, gene replacements, insertions (knockin), conditional gene targeting (knockout), and point mutations. Monoclonal antibodies to the Cre protein are an important tool for the identification of Cre recombinase in different mammalian systems. |

| General description: | Monoclonal Anti-Cre (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the 7-23 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells (X63-Ag8.653) and splenocytes from BALB/c mice immunized with Cre protein. Cre recombinase is a member of the integrase family of proteins that are site-specific recombinases. The protein is expressed in P1 bacteriophage. |

| Physical form: | Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide. |
| Preparation Note: | For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, the solution should be frozen in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Storage in "frost-free" freezers is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilution samples should be discarded if not used within 12 hours. |
