| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Calcium sensing receptor (CASR) regulates cell activity according to the extracellular calcium concentration. It also plays a major role in controlling parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. Thus, this protein can be considered as a potent target for therapeutic agents designed to modify parathyroid gland function. CASR has a role in key signal transduction pathways in several tissues such as parathyroid gland, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, placenta, pancreas and brain. Mutation in the gene is associated with autosomal dominant hypocalcemic, hypercalciuria and Bartter syndrome. |

| General description: | The calcium sensing receptor (CASR) gene with 11 exons is mapped to human chromosome 3q13.33-q21.1. CASR is a member of the C family of G protein–coupled receptors and is mainly localized in the parathyroid gland and the thick ascending limb of the Henle loop. CASR is a 1078 amino acid protein. |
| Immunogen: | peptide corresponding to amino-acids 15-29 at the extracellular N-terminus of calcium sensing receptor. |
| Physical form: | Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide. |
