| Application: | Agar has been used: • to culture Staphylococcus aureus for phage infection studies • as a supplement with NZCYM media for culturing Campylobacter coli strains for lysogeny screening • as a basic media component to improve in vitro ovule and embryo culture methods of cross Chitalpa hybrids to facilitate the rescue of triploids • in the culture media for Bdellovibrio spp. and Micavibrio spp. strains to check their susceptibility towards a variety of select agents |
| General description: | Agar, also known as agar-agar, is one of the biochemical agents most used in microbiology field. It is obtained from red algae Rhodophyceae, is the most abundantly used gelling agent in culture media. Agar is polysaccharide complex, composed of 70% agarose and 30% agaropectin. |
| Other Notes: | A purified agar from which the naturally occurring pigments, salts and miscellaneous matter has been reduced to a minimum. |
