| Application: | Glycerol may be used in the synthesis of poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) pre-polymer, which is required for the fabrication of PGS scaffolds. It may be employed to protect the human red blood-cells from damage during the process of freezing and thawing. |

It is most commonly employed cheap feedstock in the chemical industry. Its transformation to various commercial value-added chemicals has been proposed. A fast enzymatic assay for the determination of glycerol based on its reaction with ATP has been described. |
