General description: Trimethyl orthoformate is an effective solvent for thallium(III) nitrate-mediated oxidations. It undergoes acid catalyzed reaction with 6-(N-D-ribitylanilino) uracils to form 8-demethyl-8-hydroxy-5-deazariboflavins.
