| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Heat shock-related 70kDa protein 2 is a testis-specific member of the HSP70 family and is correlated with sperm maturity, function and fertility. The protein is important for cancer cell growth and metastasis. It is identified as a potential cancer-promoting protein expressed at abnormal levels in a subset of cancers. HSPA2 has an important role in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and overexpression of this gene may contribute to the malignant progression of ESCC. Its expression significantly correlates with sperm concentration and morphology. HSPA2 may play an important role in capacitation and fertilisation processes. |
