The manufacturing and quality control processes for EMD Chemicals' culture media meet ISO 11133 guidelines. These guidelines specify important culture media preparation parameters; for example, what water is to be used, pH specifications, and both incubation and sterility testing protocols. Also, the guidelines set such specific testing guidelines as productivity and selectivity on the performance of culture media.
To meet ISO 11133 performance standards, media containing agar must have a minimum of 70% recovery for non-selective media and 10% for selective media. However, EMD sets the bar even higher, at 30% for selective media.
