The new Prism™ and Prism™ R are easy-to-use, high performance microcentrifuges housed in a modern and attractive form, yet boast remarkably small footprints and quiet operation. The Prism™ is available in both air cooled and refrigerated models and features a new friction fit lid latching system that combines reliability and safety with user-friendly operation. The updated control panel with a single large control knob and easy to read Liquid Crystal Display provides an intuitive interface for operation. Speed (in RPM or G-Force) and run time can be quickly and accurately set and actual speed and time remaining are displayed during a run.
- The ambient Prism™ unit features a unique multi-flow air cooling system that keeps the rotor and samples close to ambient temperature with minimal noise. The design keeps sample temperature rise to a minimum, even when operating at maximum speed and can be used in a cold room.
- The Prism™ R offers cooling capacity to spare. Its powerful refrigeration system maintains temperatures as low as -10°C and is designed to reach 4°C (from room temperature) in less than 8 minutes.
Both models are equipped with a uniquely designed 24-place rotor that allows easy access to the tops of sample tubes, allowing for faster work flow. The individual tube slots in the solid rotor support tubes along their length to eliminate tube deformation or cracking even at the highest speed settings. In the event of a tube failure, tube pieces and samples are contained within the sample well. The rotor is designed to hold all standard 1.5/2.0mL tubes (both conical bottom and skirted), and the snap on lid offers space for micro-filter filters that fit into the tops of the tubes. Adapters are available for processing smaller tubes, and the exclusive StripSpin™ Adapter (Cat.No. 182-C2400-SS) fits onto the top of the rotor for centrifuging standard 8-tube PCR strips. The rotor is seated on a tapered shaft which facilitates easy removal of the rotor for cleaning and autoclaving.
The brushless motor drive quickly and effortlessly accelerates the rotor to set speed, reducing processing time. A computer designed isolation system ensures vibration free operation, even with a slight imbalance. The Prism™ is also equipped with an imbalance detection system that automatically shuts down operation in the event of a significant imbalance. Deceleration at the end of a run is attained in less than 18 seconds, yet will not disrupt samples.
